Port Elgin to Tobermory

Got up around 6:30am hoping to get an early start... Kathi go up at 7am... got things ready, and then went to the Harborlite Resteraunt (right next to the marina office) for peameal bacon and eggs over easy. We were already to go at 9am when the gas dock was supposed to open. We wanted to top-off our diesel tank to be safe... no one showed up by 9:45am, so we decided to take a chance on 3/4 tank full... we did fine.  It was a long haul (53nm total) to Arbutus Rock which is the point at which you turn into the Cape Hurd Channel. Of course about an hour before we got there the sunshine went away and it started raining. The Cape Hurd Channel to Tobermory is narrow and not to be done in bad weather - lots of rocks and crap if you wonder out of the channel! The rain was not too bad, there was not significant wind, and no fog. Our Garmin GPS did its job well and we followed the track very closely - me down below checking the display and relaying autopilot adjustment instructions to Kathi in the cockpit. We once again had to motor the whole way, and at some points I got a little worried that your speed through the water compared to that over ground indicated currents were present. But we turned at Doctor Island and headed for Little Tub just as the Chi-Cheemaun (the big car ferry that goes to Manitoulin Island) pulled in just ahead of us. Currently are tied up at the main town wharf conveniently just by the washrooms... everything in town is a quick walk... had whitefish dinners at the "Crow's Nest" and watch part of the NHL game.  The rain finally stopped after we got back to the boat... and the WiFi connection radically improved too... more tomorrow as we explore town.
