Beardrop Harbor

Wednesday August 11 – We took our time getting going in the morning as we decided to do some exploring and the wind was forecast to be light from the East going Southeast at 10 knots. Did the Roy Show, but needed relays for him to hear our calls (relays are when someone hears you and passes it on over the VHF radio). We could barely hear him over the static.

We eventually took the dinghy for a tour around the harbor and then out through “The Cut” between the two long islands that from Bearsdrop Harbor and over to the famous “Whalesback Rock”. We circled it once looking for the best place to land and found one rock shelf we could safely go ashore and tie-up at. We saw some animal droppings on this little rock island with blueberries in it. It was hard to figure out what kind of animal… It was pretty cool to climb around and look at the different little rock islands in the Whalesback Channel. Eventually we headed back back to the dinghy and back through “The Cut” into Bearsdrop Harbor. We toured the while shoreline and sighted nothing except a couple guys in dinghies fishing. By the time evening set in, a lot of boats had left and only a few new ones had arrived. All in all, I think there were maybe seven of us left.
