Thursday July 1 - Happy Canada Day! Kathi got up first this morning and made coffee. We took our time and eventually went up and had showers at the CYC clubhouse. I checked bills and accounts on the internet - I could just barely connect to their WiFi from where we were docked. We went up to the clubhouse to use the phone to make local calls. Since today is a National Canadian Holiday, a lot of services, such as car rental establishments, are closed. So, we could not rent a car. We were expecting Aaron to be here today with his girlfriend Maggie and that he would pick us up at CYC. Instead we had to call for a taxi. We reserved one for 3:30pm and then walked into town to Molly Bloom's Irish Pub for lunch. We got back to the CYC "gate" that I had a key for around 3:25pm and the taxi was pretty much on time. I was on the boat closing up and Kathi waiting for him at the gate. She led him around the lot to the concrete dock wall that you can drive out on almost right up to our boat. This made loading the taxi "van" with all our laundry and other stuff we wanted to bring out to the "club", but the meter was turned on when he met Kathi at the gate! When we left the boat and started backing down the concrete pier (he had problems and almost took off his driver-side mirror on a post!) the meter already read $8 and when we paid him after unloading it was $26.50 + $5 tip... Yikes, we were almost up to a car rental price! We are stranded until Aaron arrives! We could try the Blue Mountain general grocery store, but... out to dinner again!
The one bedroom condo at Club Intrawest we are in has a washer and dryer. We have windows open, but Kathi was getting cold so she turned on the gas fireplace. We also have a porch area with a hammock, chairs and a table that over looks over the golf course and the ski hills. Well, Kathi is bugging me to get my swim suite on and go to the pool and hot tub... back later...
We had a swim and met some nice people at the pool and hot tub. One couple expecting a child were from Vancouver and moved to Toronto after living in London GB for two years. Another guy I talked to was from near Guelph, Ontario and had a similar experience at Frying Pan Bay as we did on his brother's sailboat. Also talked to a guy with daughter and wife who were from Sherbrooke, Quebec and knew my cousins that own the Nadeau family jewelry stores in Sherbrooke. In general Canadians are very friendly!
